For a very long time, Liberals have railed against too small government (the kind that can’t properly care for people), xenophobia (the kind that puts innocent lives in danger), the military industrial complex (the kind that is war-for-profit), the destruction of civil liberties (to the point that folks are afraid to speak their legal, free thoughts), the rise of The Far Right (to the point that we’ve studied The Holocaust and World War II quite a bit), the continued oppression of Indigenous populations (to the point of genocide, again) the twisted installment of faux Christianity in our government (to the point that it crushes religious diversity), the harkening back to Black civil rights (to the point of slavery, again), the forcing of women out of the workforce and into abusive and exploitive situations they cannot get out of, the collaboration with bad guys internationally, and the institution of gross machismo.
Trump Regime, you are a self-fulfilling prophecy. Good for you.
The problem is, we remember. We’ve had healthcare for people who need it. We’ve welcomed immigrants and they’ve become our families. We’ve been in the Navy, the Coast Guard, and the Army, and we have been military families. We’ve had Allan Ginsburg’s freedom of speech. We’ve made 249 years of progress, and set that example for the world. We’ve taught Native Studies, been to reservations, and made alliances between Euro-Americans and Indigenous people. We’ve been free to explore all kinds of non-religion and religion, and we’ve formed interfaith communities. We’ve sat in racially integrated classes from Kindergarten to PhD’s. We’ve made domestic violence shelters and formed underground railroads for victims of abuse. We’ve been the Real Americans, faithfully swearing allegiance to The United States of America with every moment of progress. We’ve been drinking smoothies and eating salad with so many options of salad dressing it’s hard to phantom.
So, go ahead. Be the fuck-ups you wish in the world, Trump Regime.
We already know you. It’s been an entirely prophetic stereotype. But now, if we didn’t before, we have due cause.
