Jason, My Man and Life Partner, is a citizen of The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. I got pregnant in Paris, Texas. That’s my roots. That’s our roots.

My mom had already been planning to move to Florida, right near Daytona Beach, when I got pregnant. I was 14. I went with my mom.

Do you know what Jason did? He sent me money before our daughter was born so I could buy things for her. He worked hard–very hard–often out in the heat, Sun, rain, snow. With sweat, racism, chainsaws, and injuries.

And he visited.

Eventually, he was able to transfer his job to Florida!

He came to Florida with a car, clothes, a little money in his pocket, and a job. With only those things, he built a life.

He is an impeccable Dad. He is an impeccable partner. And we love him.

This is the unfinished draft of Jennifer Lee Lawson, MA’s Master’s Thesis. It was written in 2009.

An already well-known graduate student in philosophy, Lawson was attacked and fell ill while she was writing this thesis, sending her under doctor’s care for over a decade.

This draft is being made available especially for YOU–an international audience–because Lawson believes her thesis must have been important enough for someone–whoever it was–to harm her.

This manuscript is social, cultural, political, and legal philosophy that deals specifically with Indigenous Peoples. Questions such as “Should we leave uncontacted tribal people alone?”, “Who should be a tribal citizen?”, and “Are tribes cultural entities?” are explored.
