Adventures in Dumbass Thinking

Here’s a new Economist article that argues we must entertain strange ideas. Fortunately, this is wrong. Entertaining strange ideas for its own sake is unequivocally not the point of any intellectual exploration. Rather, we must follow the evidence and logic wherever it goes for the sake of truth. Sometimes, it’s a novel idea that’s true, and if we are real seekers, we must accept ideas that are anomalous, not intuitive, hurt our feelings, and/or are against our traditional morality. The whole point of intellectual pursuits is, happily, not to be a fucking weirdo. It’s to find truth.
