Documented and undocumented immigrants play a huge role in our food system in the United States. Most of us are familiar with immigrants harvesting food on our farms. But what about the trucking industry, which supports a lot of our food distribution? Immigrants work there, too.

After you get a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and, in some cases, your own rig, you can start, last I checked, making six figures in trucking. My hunch is that this is exactly why Trump wants to crack down on this industry rather than other high-immigrant professions where pay is lower, such as house cleaning. High-paying jobs are, obviously, for the Cleavers. Not Cheech and Chong.

Join me in thanking immigrants for their commitment and hard work in our food system. Make it public. Make it loud. Make it non-violent.
